"Your gender is not between your legs, but in my head".
It is this phrase I described the whole idea of the film "The Danish Girl". It should be noted that transsexuality is not filmed so many movies. To my mind comes the film "Boys don't cry". But there it was about a FTM (female-to-male), which means "woman in a man". Film directed by Tom Hooper tells the story of a MTF (male-to-female), transgender woman.
I have no complaints with how the world was shown Einar Wegener, who for a time was a block to get to know herself.
Transgender people do not become, them are born. And in any case we should not confuse transsexualism with cross-dressing. Furthermore, among transgender people can be of different orientations. Lili Elbe was a heterosexual woman, whose gender is not clearly coincide with a true sense of self. She was born in that era, when on transsexuality is rarely heard and much less understood. European professors were "infected" with Freudianism, but Freud's doctrine is closer to fantasy than to reality. It is therefore not surprising that the poor Lily after visiting several doctors, are unable to meet a true professional who could help her. Only by chance, Lily meets a former luminary of psychiatry: Professor Magnus Hirshfeld. Unfortunately, at that time, sex reassignment surgery was in its infancy. Lily was a brave woman. She was not afraid to stake his life, if only to finally find harmony of his soul with his own body. In my opinion British actor Eddie Redmayne brilliantly caught the essence of the tragedy of Lily and skillfully translated to the screen her experiences of suffering and the desire itself. Swedish actress Alicia vikander deserves special praise. She showed a sensitive woman with a hot temper who loved it her husband. But in this story we can safely say that she loved only an image, for Einar was not. Always was Lily Elbe. And even if Gerda didn't come once with the idea to dress my husband in a dress, anyway, sooner or later the true nature under the name Lily definitely manifested. What is given by nature, not hide nor society, not postulates and any rules that are invented by people. In conclusion, I want to say that I believed that that showed Eddie on the screen. If anyone saw his performance of a gay man, but not woman, then maybe it's time to disengage from stereotypes and explore the world of transgender people? Team Tom Hooper invited us to feel and see the world in which many of us initially were not by birth. Danish girl Lili Elbe was born only when her body died away forever. Because this body was alien to her.
