Room

The film Leonard Abrahamson stands out from the list of nominees in the category "Best film" because it causes involuntary to think about their freedom. His personal freedom. This psychological drama, I think one of the best (if not best) in its genre in 2015.

Rapist 7 years ago kidnaps the heroine and leaves her imprisoned in a shed, where the only connection to the world — the hatch in the ceiling, which, in principle, impossible to reach. A couple of years, the heroine brie Larson born son Jack. She feeds him tales that all outside the rooms in the barn — space and outside space — Paradise. But when Jack celebrates its first anniversary, the mother decides that it is time to get out of here, and tells his son the truth. In the end, the boy, pretending to be a corpse, the rapist takes away for later burial, but he manages to escape, and then, and mother and son be at liberty.

The film is based on the principle of antithesis, and I must say, the Director is very successful in this. The first half of the picture we see only a tiny room, substitute the whole world to the little boy. The second is the huge world that was not available to him during the long five years of his life.

Once free, the boy there is some semblance of "Stockholm syndrome" — he wants to return to "the dungeon". But then we see his "development": he adapts, he has a friend and loving grandmother with her new husband. We see that it is an order of magnitude more plastic and wiser than his mother, who cannot forgive the offenses caused to her by the mother she believes is guilty for what happened.

A few words I want to say about the actors. Very impressed with little Jacob Tremble. You know, I questioned his theory that children can't play in serious movies (and in this picture — he's one of the main roles). He perfectly coped with their work. And at the end of the movie when it opened a new life, I had a smile caused by empathy toward the protagonist, and I was sincerely happy for him. Brie Larson is also well blended into the picture. She gave all the feelings that had to show without overacting and other unwanted parts. And, I think, deservedly won the Golden globe for best dramatic role.

In the film, there are cons who would like to pay attention to. Mostly, they relate to the work of the screenwriter, and not so rough, and yet... One of me noticed inaccuracies in the script turned out to be the unsolved nature of the old nick. Perhaps the fact that the writer did not want to put to the fore and wanted to lean on the history of relations between mother and son and the theme of lack of freedom, and yet, I believe that a little bit of his personality to reveal the cost, it would have made the tape to fuller. Absolutely not disclosed the conflict of the heroine brie Larson with her father. And in General this storyline with him was inappropriate. Strange line on the attempted suicide of the protagonist: how a loving mother could leave her son? And a couple of moments, but they are so insignificant, what can I say, I find fault.

As a result, we have an excellent psychological drama, sostavlyayuschye to think about his freedom, quite cruel, but no less good. With their cons and pros.
